Prof Samer Bagaeen
MRTPI FRICS FRSA FRGS
Samer joined Arcadis as a Technical Director with the Environmental Planning team in July 2022.
He is a Chartered Town Planner, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, an InfraChallenge Mentor at the Global Infrastructure Hub of the G20, and a Design Council Expert. He was appointed by the Planning Inspectorate to the pool of Appointable Examining Inspectors at the end of 2021.
As Associate Director (City Relationships) with 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, Samer worked with city leaders in Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon, Tbilisi, Amman and Ramallah to mobilise resources for resilience. He worked with Arcadis colleagues during this period.
He was appointed by the University of Kent to the post of Professor of Planning & Resilient Systems in 2018 where he also manages one of the DCMS/Arts Council's Creative Estuary projects, Cultural Co-location, working with EDC at Ebbsfleet and Purfleet Central Regeneration Ltd at Thurrock. He previously worked at the RICS in London in a thought leadership role and delivered the Institution’s corporate training on ESG & sustainability to the Saudi Public Investment Fund and Generali.
Samer was elected to Brighton and Hove City Council in May 2019, serving on the Health and Wellbeing Board, the 2030 Carbon Neutral Working Group, and the Circular Economy Working Group. He is also a member of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee. He served on the Climate Assembly Advisory Board in 2020 and has served on the Infrastructure Panel at the Greater Brighton Economic Board since 2018. He is a founder member of the Sussex Hydrogen Group.
Samer served on the Policy Council at the Town and Country Planning Association from 2010-2020 where he also served as a Trustee for five years. He has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Royal Town Planning Institute and is presently a member of the Institute’s General Assembly and its Audit & Risk committee.
