Usamah is a Chartered Town Planner and Senior Planner at Pegasus Group, with significant and wide-ranging experience delivering planning consents across Scotland and the UK.
Â
He has worked on a diverse portfolio of projects, with a particular focus on nationally significant and major onshore renewable energy applications, including Section 36 consents and large-scale battery energy storage projects. Alongside renewables, he has also supported a wide range of residential, commercial, and mixed-use schemes across Scotland and England. His work spans the full planning lifecycle – from feasibility and site promotion through to applications, discharge of conditions, public consultation, appeals, and supporting the preparation of planning inquiries.
Â
Beyond project delivery, Usamah is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion in the planning and energy sectors. He is a member of Pegasus’ Inclusive Culture Action Group (ICAG) and a steering group member of the BAME Planners Network. He was recognised through the Scottish Renewables New Voices campaign, which showcases emerging leaders in the renewables sector, and featured in PREACH Inclusion’s In Conversation With series for South Asian Heritage Month, where he reflected on his heritage, lived experience, and commitment to greater representation in planning. He has also contributed as a speaker for Race Equality Week at Pegasus Group.
Â
Usamah’s lived experience as a Scottish-born Pakistani Muslim informs his approach to planning and engagement, helping him build trust with diverse communities and champion greater representation in the profession. He is committed to mentoring the next generation of planners and inspiring young people from minority backgrounds to see themselves reflected in the built environment sector.
