Abraham Laker Appointed Co-Chair of the BAME Planners Network

The BAME Planners Network is proud to announce the appointment of Abraham Laker FRTPI FRSA as its new Co-Chair. He will join Ransford Stewart MBE and Helen Fadipe MBE FRTPI FRSA, current President of the RTPI, in lead
ing the Network’s work to champion equity, inclusion, and representation within the planning profession. Abraham brings a wealth of professional experience and a longstanding commitment to mentoring and advocacy. His appointment reflects the Network’s ongoing mission to create a more inclusive planning sector, where diverse voices are not only heard but celebrated.
Commenting on his appointment, Abraham said:
“I am honoured to take on this role and to help build on the incredible work the BAME Planners Network has already achieved. Representation matters, and I look forward to working with my fellow Co-Chairs, colleagues, and partners to ensure our profession is more inclusive, accessible, and reflective of the communities we serve.”
The BAME Planners Network provides support, advocacy, and a platform for planners from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds across the UK. Through events, mentoring, and policy engagement, the Network is driving positive change and shaping a planning profession that better serves society.
Ransford Stewart MBE, Co-Chair of the Network, welcomed Abraham’s appointment, stating:
“Abraham Laker has been an active and visible member of the Network since its inception. He’s been an excellent support and role model for new entrants to the profession in particular and is well respected by all Network members. I’m delighted that he has agreed to become a Co-Chair of the Network.”
Helen Fadipe MBE FRTPI FRSA, also expressed her enthusiasm:
“I am delighted to welcome Abraham Laker as Co-Chair of the BAME Planners Network. As one of the founding members and a valued member of the Steering Group, Abraham has made an outstanding contribution to the Network’s formation and continued growth. Until recently, he served as Lead for Governance and Strategic Liaison with Universities, roles in which his strategic insight and commitment proved invaluable. He brings to this position a wealth of professional experience in
planning, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion
within the profession. I look forward to working with him as we continue to build on the Network’s
success.”
